November 26, 2017 Bulletin

    Service For the Lord’s Day

    First Presbyterian Church
    Starkville, Mississippi

    Christ the King Sunday
    November 26, 2017

Prelude Crown Him with Many Crowns DIADEMATA
     Jennifer Blackbourn, organ

Welcome; FPC Ministry Updates Martin Lifer

*Introit (11:00 – Chancel Choir, Craig Aarhus directing)

    *Call to Worship
Sharing the Call of God’s Word: from Philippians 2:5-11
Pastor: Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
Who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a
thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself –
taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being
found in human form, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the
point of death, even death on a cross.
ALL: Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the
name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of
    God the Father.

    Prayers of Invocation and Praise

*Hymn of Praise 311 All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name DIADEM

    Prayers of Confession and Petition
(Unison Prayer) Holy Father, we have failed to put Christ our King first with our time, thoughts, words, and actions. Have mercy on us. Lord Jesus, by your Spirit, lead us into true repentant faith. Let us know the blessings of making faithful promises to You for the year ahead, and sanctify us to receive from your Table today as those who will soon share with You in Heaven.

    Silent Prayers
    Good News of God’s Grace
    * Responsive Hymn 668 - The Doxology

*Giving to God: Tithes, Offerings, and First Things First Pledges
    *Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

Offertory Anthem (11:00 – Chancel Choir)
    Open My Eyes, Spirit Divine

Prayer with Young Disciples Ashleigh Murdock (11:00)

*Affirming Our Faith from The (Westminster) Shorter Catechism Q. 26

Pastor: How is Christ a king?
ALL: As a king, Christ brings us under his power,
    rules and defends us, and
restrains and conquers all his and our enemies.

    *Hymn 670 The Gloria Patri
