October 8, 2017 Bulletin

    Service For the Lord’s Day

    First Presbyterian Church
    Starkville, Mississippi

    October 8, 2017

Prelude Praise Him! Praise Him! arr. Leatherman
     Jennifer Blackbourn, organ

Welcome and FPC Ministry Updates Martin Lifer

Introit (11:00 – Chancel Choir, Vivien Miller directing) Sing and Rejoice

*Call to Worship from Romans 4:11-12; Galatians 3:27-29; and Acts 2:39
Pastor: Now Abram received the sign of circumcision – a seal of the righteousness of the faith he had while not yet circumcised – so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised (that righteousness might be reckoned to them) and the father of circumcision to those who not only are circumcised but also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham, which faith he had while uncircumcised.

For all you who are baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

ALL: There is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female; for we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Pastor: And if we all [baptized into Him] belong to Christ, then
ALL: We all are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the covenant.
Pastor: “For the promise is to you and your children, and for all who are far away: as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.”

    *Prayers of Praise

*Hymn 488 The God of Abraham of Praise LEONI

*The Congregation’s Covenantal Commitment and Affirmation of Faith

*The Apostles’ Creed (Unison) Elder-Sponsor Edward Kemp
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Baptismal Affirmation from the Liturgy of the French Reformed Church
Eleanor Jane, for you Jesus Christ came into the world. For you He went through the agony of Gethsemane and the darkness of Calvary; for you He triumphed over death; for you, little child, even though you did not know it. But this is what we believe: “We love God, because He first loved us.” So welcome to the family of faith!
